The End of Everything
This article shows the importance of values and norms in becoming a master.
This though is exemplified in the article through the five tenets of Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do as a discipline has five major tenets that it follows to be able to be one of the best Tae Kwon Do practitioners in the world. These tenets are similar to those of the other disciplines like Aikido, Judo and Karate. These tenets are: integrity, courtesy, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit. These tenets serve as guide values which are also applicable to other disciplines of Martial Arts. Courtesy makes learning more easily grasped because it removes the meaning and want to reign. Integrity maintains your discipline in dealing with other practitioners. Perseverance is the resilience to keep on moving onwards despite of the difficulties in achieving the goal. Self- control negates unneeded emotional and physical force to prevent making unneeded and irrational decisions. And lastly, an indomitable spirit is the manner of emanating your feelings regardless whether you win or lose. These tenets are also transcended among other disciplines, the only difference is that the words used are different from these tenets, but they still have the same essence. Tae Kwon Do is a ten level belt discipline; it will require long years of relentless training to be able to achieve the black belt. Even if they are varying in levels, Karate, Judo and Aikido also follow different levels of promotion based on ability and skill. This system will urge practitioners to practice the five tenets brought before them to observe. The journey a practitioner must undergo to is a collection of long years, energy draining trainings, and even injuries from practices. But even a master can only know much, so there is no such thing as flawless mastery. The journey amongst these disciplines (Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Aikido and Judo) will equip the practitioners with the preparedness they need to be masters themselves. This preparedness is not only through physical strength, but most importantly through mental awareness and control. This journey is best guided with values such as the tenets of Tae Kwon Do.(Jack W. Hadley)TAE KWON DO
Tae Kwon Do is a modern martial Art that is based on ancient methods of combat. It is a system of practical techniques used for fighting in almost any possible situation. Tae Kwon Do is an empty-hand martial art, meaning that it doesn't teach the use of weapons, although it teaches how to defend against weapons. It emphasizes defensive fighting and self-defense. In addition to the kicks and punches that resemble Karate, Tae Kwon Do also favors take down techniques and throws also found in Aikido and Judo. Other elements include joint locks and vital point strikes. Board breaking is used to demonstrate power, technique and mental discipline. The physical practice ot Tae Kwon Do is generally broken into four stages: fighting techniques, forms, sparring and self-defense.
Each of these areas are essential and all are interrelated. They depend on each other. Fighting techniques are the building blocks of Tae Kwon Do. Therefore, they are the first thing you learn. Punches, kicks, blocks and stances must be individually learned and understood before they can be incorporated into forms, sparring or self-defense. The basic techniques can be learned very quickly, but will take years to perfect. There are ten basic movements that make up the core techniques of Tae Kwon Do. They are the techniques upon which all others build. The movements are preformed in order.2. Middle Punch (straight punch to the middle section)
3. High Punch (straight punch to the high section)
4. High Block
5. Middle front kick Punch (from kick followed immediately by a straight punch, both to the middle section)
6. High Front Kick Punch (front kick followed immediately by a straight punch, both to the high section)
7. Inside-Outside Crescent Block
8. Outside-Inside Crescent Block
9. Double Knife Hand Block
10. Two-Finger Strike
Once the basic fighting techniques are acquired, you then put them together to practice forms, sparring and self-defense. After learning a few techniques, you will then learn a beginner form. Chon-ji is the first form you learn. A form is simply a set pattern of techniques that a martial artist memorizes and practices. This allows the martial artist to work on techniques in a series and to combine techniques together. A form is a good way to practice a wide variety of techniques in a small amount of space. Forms are considered the "art" in martial art, emphasizing balance, grace and timing. Forms are memorized until no thought is needed to perform the techniques correctly. This helps to develop an empty mind.
Freestyle sparring is the next element in training. Once you learn the basic techniques and how they can be put together, you are then ready for sparring. In sparring, partners attack and defend as if they were in an actual confrontation. Fighters wear safety gear, restrict techniques to certain target areas and cannot use especially dangerous techniques. You can always learn many of the necessary skills, by shadow sparring and by sparring a heavy bag.
Self-defense practice is the final component of the study of Tae Kwon Do.
Self-defense requires a knowledge of the basic techniques, which it builds on through the practice of realistic scenarios,
such as an attacker grabbing you by the arm or the sleeve. The idea is to make responses to common attacks almost automatic.
In addition to kicks and punches, self-defense techniques include joint locking and vital point striking.
Please remember that the practice of martial arts can be dangereous . Take the appropriate precautions when practicing.
Whether you've practiced martial arts before, or just starting out, with desire and practice, you can discover the meaning
of martial arts by unlocking the secrets of Tae Kwo Do.

They are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
Courtesy helps create an environment where ego does not reign supreme.
Integrity is the way in which you conduct your dealings with others.
Perseverance is the unwillingness to give up, even if the task seems to difficult to do.
Self-control has to do with the control of your physical body and control of your emotions.
It requires you to restrain both physical and mental reactions,
using reason and judgment, not fear or anger, to make decisions.
Indomitable spirit is having the right attitude whether you win or lose.
Following this ethical system makes you a better martial artist and a better person.
Anyone who begins training in Tae Kwon Do does so with the same objective in mind- one day achieving the rank of black belt. Although the black blet does signify a person of advanced skill, the attainment of a black belt is not the end of training but rather the beginning of serious study. In the color belt ranks, people are learning the basic techniques of Tae Kwon Do. Even so, it can take several years of dedicated work before a person reaches first degree black belt. To achieve this level, students will develop mental and physical abilities that will enable them to break pine boards with a single blow or leap high in the air to kick a target many feet above the floor and land again under control. These are impressive feats to be sure, but for those students who continue their study of the art, even greater abilities are yet to be discovered.
In Tae Kwon Do,there are ten levels of black belt. Each level, known as a DAN, represents not only the attainment of new skills, but the continuing perfection of the basic skills one has already learned The study of Tae Kwon Do is a lifelong effort, based on the understanding that knoeledge of the art is never truely complete.
Tae Kwon Do is a modern martial art that focuses on self defense and defensive styles of fighting. It is derived from old types of martial arts; it is a combination of the different ancient martial arts. It resembles karate through the kicks, punches and strikes. It also uses the takedown techniques of aikido and judo. There are also existing elements of Tae Kwon Do that utilizes joint locks and vital points’ strikes. This art like karate is empty hand martial arts, it does not have techniques that use weapons, but it does give training for battling against weapon attacks. This art usually demonstrates power and mental concentration through board breaking. This physical and mental preparedness is generally broken down in to four stages: fighting techniques, forms, sparring and self-defense. Tae Kwon Do’s stages of development are essential in their very selves but also interrelated. The way one executes the basic steps of this art will open up new possible and open area of attacks, it can therefore be generalized that the mastery of these stages will make simultaneously occurring perfected attacks. There are ten basic movement s in Tae Kwon Do: low Block, middle Punch (straight punch to the middle section), high Punch (straight punch to the high section), high Block, middle front kick Punch (from kick followed immediately by a straight punch, both to the middle section) ,high Front Kick Punch (front kick followed immediately by a straight punch, both to the high section), inside-Outside Crescent Block, outside-Inside Crescent Block, double Knife Hand Block, two-Finger Strike. Learning these moves are easy, but mastering them will take years of persistent training. Tae Kwon Do will require that any practitioner should learn the basic forms of attacks. If these moves are mastered, the practitioner will then get a beginner form. Chon-ji is the first form of Tae Kwon Do. Forms like Chon- ji would develop the ability to execute movement without thinking about it; a learned skill will become an instinct. The forms like the Chon- ji will develop an empty mind.
